Whiff of Joy Challenge - One for the boys - no blue

This weeks Whiff of Joy challenge is to make a Christmas card for a boy - no blue. Out came Herb again (just love this little guy) but have just realised the colours are so similar to the card I did for last weeks challenge - I'm in the bottle green and burgundy mood at the mo lol. Oh well, too late to change it now.

I thought I would be clever and stitch with gold embroidery thread - BAD idea!! My sewing machine did not like this thread one bit and if you could see the back of the paper you would fall about laughing. There is more breaks, joins and tape on the back than actual stitching. The whole lot almost went out of the window last night ARGH! But I'm glad I persevered, I love the effect of the gold on the dark papers. If anyone knows of a brand of gold cotton that gets along with a sewing machine please leave me a comment - I will be eternally grateful lol.

I've coloured Herb from Whiff of Joy with the usual distress inks and H2O's, added sparkle with a quickie glue pen and glamour dust. I think the snowflakes can just be seen in the pic, they are much more sparkly IRL.
The papers are HOTP, the snowflakes are Stampin Up Snow Flurries (love these!!) - I deepend the colour with Bravo Burgundy to tone in with the papers a bit better, the sentiment is a Studio G stamp that I have punched out with a SU Word Window punch.

Thanks for looking,

  16. What a great card Bev and this new snowman is just so cute. I don't think I have any suitable Whiff of Joy stamps for a boy card - feel a litle shop coming on!!

I just love these colours. I have just finished a commission for a local flower shop and they wanted them all in these colours so as to fit in with their window displays and I just loved working with these tradtional colours.

  23. Hi Bev
Love this card, the colours are so vibrant. I went in to my local sewing shop a couple of weeks ago looking for gold thread but could only get bog standard gold sewing thread (I wanted something shimmery). I will let you know if I come across anything.

  32. I always use Guterman threads for the machine and I'm sure they do a metallic gold - but you might need to loosen the tension a bit if it keeps snapping. Anyway, you made a fabulous card and the stitching looks great! hugs, annie x

  50. Bev, Try Mettler metallic.
If you can't get it then Gutermann is the next best and loosen the bottom thread tension when using these machine embroidery threads.
    Lovely card as always
