Lilac and Lavender

I’ve something that I did earlier to share today.  I made this oh around 8 years ago (might even be more).  I was one of the lucky few people in the UK to have gone to classes with Jean Taylor, the lady that designed this egg.  Sadly she took very ill shortly after agreeing to teach this at a seminar and it was touch and go whether it would be ready for teaching.  A few of the girls at the class offered to help her out, I cut the eggs (all 20 rhea, 40 goose and 40 duck eggs) ready for the seminar, and others helped out with getting the kits ready and teaching on the day.  Sadly Jean passed away not long after this, the world sure lost one of the greatest egg artists there ever was, make no mistake.  Jean had the most amazing eye for style and all her work exuded CLASS.

The detail she put into designing this egg is beyond incredible!  The flower on the top of the egg is made up of petals cut from goose eggs, then lined with satin before being edged with several rows of braid.  The egg took me an absolute age to do, and I loved every moment I spent doing it.

All the little lilac flowers around the base of the egg and also in each scallop on the top part of the egg were papier toiled then hardened with a resin so they resemble porcelain.

The inside is made up of layers of lace, then a platform of padded satin was added.  Getting that transfer on without marking the rest of the satin took some doing I can tell you.

The little Swarowski crystals were a nightmare to get them all the same length, I had them on and off that many times I lost count lol.

I really really do want to get back to decorating eggs again, I got so much pleasure from making them (and so did my mate who has a copy of most of those that I made) Smile

Thanks for dropping by today

  61. This is a lovely decorated egg, Bev. I did egg decorating also (about 8 years ago, too, come to think of it) and I know how long these things take (counting links in fine chain to make sure crystals drop the same distance then putting the up-eye in the wrong place... grrr)this really is very elegant, the decorated satin pad is just perfect. TFS, Donna

You have a fantastic eye for detail. Great Job and thanks so much for sharing :)!
